In supermarkets, the shopping list can be a real pain. You need one hand to guide the scooter, one to pick things from the shelf, and a third to hold the list. Of course, if you only have one arm you’re already at a disadvantage. There had to be an easier way
First of all, I thought about a cyclists’ map holder, but they’re just too big and too expensive, and wouldn’t fit all scooters, so I came up with this, which should suit the majority of scooters. Suits mine, anyway.
You need:-
a couple of flat steel washers, about a centimetre in diameter – the size of the hole matters not at all, nor, really, does the size of the washer – use what you have, but a centimetre is enough to do the job, but not so big they’ll look ugly (NB: some grades of stainless steel are not magnetic, nor are brass and aluminium, of course.)
a small piece of heavy-duty double-sided adhesive tape (or whatever you can get – it’s easy and cheap enough to replace every trip should you need to), about as wide as the washers, or as close as you can get – it’s not critical
a fridge magnet, big enough to cover the washers
Take about an inch and a half of tape, and fold one end over to make a tab so it can be removed easily should you need to – trim so the adhesive section is 2 centimetres long. Stick the washers to the tape, and trim off any excess, then apply it, horizontally, to the tiller head in a suitable position in front of you.
Then, using the fridge magnet, when you get to the store you can attach your shopping list to the washers (wipe them first if it’s a wet day), where it can be easily read.
And there you have it – Ron’s shopping list holder, costs buttons, and couldn’t be any easier to make, or to use.
NB – if you can’t get double-sided tape, just tape the washers to the tiller by placing the tape over them – it’ll still work and, if you can match the tape to the colour of your scooter, will hardly show. In fact, this might actually be a better idea, but then this post would only have been about 6 lines long!
