This morning, the online Guardian offers this gem:-
“The 83rd Academy Awards kicked off with an opening monologue – widely considered slightly substandard – from James Franco and Anne Hathaway.”
Perhaps, out here in the real world, the idea that two people can perform a monologue might be considered substandard journalism?
Sadly, while I have no idea if the print version has sunk to such levels, such crappy writing has become all too common in the online version of late.
So, Guardian, here’s a thought – stop buggering about with live blogs, which are no substitute for real journalism and are invariably thrown together by guys who appear not to have started shaving yet (and are badly in need of decaf), and videos, galleries, and podcasts for even the most pointless of subjects, and concentrate, instead (or as well – I don’t care, just do it!), on the basics, like ensuring your staff actually have a firm grasp of written English.
It’s not a lot to ask.
(Monologue – from the Greek monologos – speaking alone.)

Ha. Well spotted, Ron.
Well said, Ron!
