Playing doctors and nurses again…

Note: This was written yesterday.

Nurses asked me to get the GP out today. I assumed they wanted him to inspect my festering, infected Lymphoedema, as no-one at the surgery has actually seen it, though I have been referred to the vascular clinic. So I arranged a home visit.

The Staff Nurse came today, so I asked, if I unwrap my leg to show the doc, who’s going to redress it for me? (I could do my leg, but not my foot.)

She gave me a funny look and said he was coming to see me, not Continue reading

A Recipe for Bean Soup. . .

Bean soup

What’s that you’ve got there?

It’s bean soup.

Yes, I can see that, but what is it now?

(Very old verbal joke!)

So I was making this soup today (it’s actually another bottom of the fridge soup, scrabbled together on the spur of the moment), got as far as sweating off the onions in a little oil and butter, and when they were soft, stirring in the paprika, when the nurse arrived, enthusing wildly about how wonderful it smelled, and could she have the recipe – so this is it. Tempting to give her a recipe for Continue reading

Diet time again – Oh joy!

My diet started today as I’ve gained 5kg and discovered that my “snack lunch” is around 1,300kcals! Of the 2 small pork pies, a couple of pickled eggs and some home-made pickles (beetroot, cucumber, red onion), the damage is done by the pies which account for over 1,000kcals.

On a different, but not unrelated note, I weighed Continue reading

Lymphoedema progress…

If, indeed, progress is the right word – I have my doubts.

Since Wednesday, my left leg has been swathed in a compression dressing, looking like a giant, pink, Elastoplast. This, against the laws of extremely basic physics would, I was assured, force the leaking lymphatic fluid back into its proper channels within the body. My belief, in accordance, as I say, with basic physics, was that it would take the route of least resistance, i.e., worsening the existing leak.

And Lo! Continue reading

Interfering GP . . .

My GP telephoned me a couple of weeks ago saying he was cutting my Phyllocontin Continus by half, as he had been advised by the consultant at APH that the full dose was toxic.

I pointed out that the toxicity was based on blood tests that were now 4 months old and, when they were done I had lost a huge amount of weight – 31kg – which resulted in an effective overdose, hence the apparent toxicity. I had now regained much of that weight, had no reason to suspect that the full dose was still toxic, and would appreciate Continue reading

The Birth of a Police State: UK Police to be Granted Sweeping New Powers

An essential read – seriously . . .

Please note – if moved to comment, I didn’t write this post – it’s been reblogged from its source. Please direct praise or criticism to the writer, not to me.

Scriptonite Daily

The UK Government is about to pass legislation which will make any behaviour perceived to potentially ‘cause nuisance or annoyance’ a criminal offence. The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill also grants local authorities, police and even private security firms sweeping powers to bar citizens from assembling lawfully in public spaces.  Those who refuse orders under the new rules will face arrest, fines and even prison time.

The Ever Increasing Powers

Since the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, which introduced Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) the government has invented and legislated for a litany of such orders covering everything from dog poo to drug addiction, including but not limited to: Control Orders; Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Orders; Intervention Orders; Crack House Closure Orders; Premise Closure Orders; Brothel Closure Orders; Gang Related Violence Injunctions; Designated Public Place Orders; Special…

How Cameron’s plans to block on-line porn could also block political sites

Pride's Purge

(not satire)

Back in January I wrote a blogpost about how Internet Service Providers such as 3UK and O2 were censoring – flagging or blocking – websites like this one which include political content.

At the time some political commentators dismissed my discovery that political websites were being blocked as just mistakes or ‘over-sensitive filters’.

This is because they completely failed to understand the significance of what I had got the ISP’s to admit – that they had created a new category of websites they were censoring with what they call ‘mature content‘ – not just ‘adult content‘ which would include things like pornography.

Here’s a tweet to me from 3UK admitting the new category of websites they were censoring:

The blogpost was widely shared but – troublingly for me – not by the usual political people who read this blog but by techies who somehow…

Ocado – purveyors of crap to the unsuspecting…

The ragged strips of fish in the following photo speak for themselves. The label says “fillets” which, frankly, is bullshit. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it’s blatant misrepresentation. Sadly, I have 4 packs of this crap.
