Buggering up the English language, Part Umpteenth…

Have you noticed how everyone HATES everything? Well, maybe not everyone, but enough to form a clear pattern, that’s for sure. Yet – why hate?

As a negative emotion, hatred is as extreme as it gets. It’s the emotion that sees people murdered for being the wrong colour, or religion; or for being the right religion and making the wrong choices.

Or hated for being David Cameron.

The thing is, though, it’s not hatred most of the time, for most people. It’s intellectual laziness – CBA thinking of the appropriate word – or the mark of a wholly inadequate vocabulary. Bugger it, let’s just hate everyone and everything!

The Spending Challenge website…

Sterilise claimants urges racist treasury website, shrieks the Benefits and Work newsletter, a publication rather prone to hyperbole. Not quite true, either – this is not a Treasury suggestion, as is clearly implied

It refers to the Spending Challenge website set up by the coalition to allow members of the public to suggest ways of saving money (here’s one – fire George Osborne).

To the surprise of nobody but the folks at Benefits and Work, when it comes to those of us who are unable to work, though disability and/or illness, or who are unemployed, this has attracted the attention of those of a right-wing and severely psychopathic persuasion.
